BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and three other BNP leaders were sued in Dhaka today for allegedly killing 42 people during the BNP-led 20-party combine-enforced anti-government movement since January 5.
The other accused are: BNP standing committee member Rafiqul Islam Mia, BNP vice chairman Shamser Mobin Chowdhury and pro-BNP intellectual Prof Emajuddin Ahmed.
After hearing the complaint, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Atikur Rahman ordered Gulshan police to investigate the allegations.
“Khaleda Zia masterminded the incidents of killing while the rest three instigated the incidents,” AB Siddique, president of Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, a pro-Awami League organisation, said in his complaint.
AB Siddique filed the case around 10:00am with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Dhaka.
The complaint says the BNP-led 20-party men blasted petrol bombs and crude bombs during the nonstop movement, leaving 42 people killed and hundreds injured.
The blockade, that entered 28th day today, began 5 after the government did not allow BNP to hold a rally marking the first anniversary of January 5 election as “democracy killing day”.
BNP chief Khaleda, who was kept confined inside her Gulshan office since January 3 for more than two weeks, is still determined to carry on countrywide agitation.The Daily Star so far reported killings of 39 people till today; most of them were burnt to death as arsonists threw petrol bombs on public vehicles. Of the victims, 28 people were nonrelated to politics.
