SSC pass rate falls by 4.3pc

 

 

A total of 87.04 percent students have passed this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations, which is 4.30 percentage points lower than that of last year.

As many as 1,11,901 students secured the highest Grade Point Average (GPA-5) this year where as it was 1,42,276 in 2014.

In eight education boards, 86.72 percent passed this year’s SSC examinations with 93,631 securing the GPA-5.

Total 88.65 percent students passed the exams under Dhaka board, 82.77 percent in Chittagong, 84.22 percent in Comilla, 94.97 in Rajshahi, 84.37 percent in Barisal, 81.82 percent in Sylhet, 85.05 percent in Dinajpur and 84.02 in Jessore.

However, students under Madrasa Education Board did well this year with 90.20 percent pass while 83.01 percent passed in the SSC (vocational).

A total of 11,338 madrasa students got GPA-5 while 6,932 students in the SSC (vocational).

A total of 12,82,618 students passed the exams while 14.79 lakh students candidates took part in the exams under all education boards.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid formally handed over a copy of the result to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gono Bhaban in presence of chairmen of all the boards.

The minister announced the results through a press briefing at the secretariat in the afternoon.

Examinees will get their results from their respective centres, websites of their respective boards or from mobile phones through SMS from 2:00pm.
