Germany’s World Cup winning squad have today returned home from Brazil, with fans gathering on the so-called ‘Fan Mile’ at the landmark Brandenburg Gate in Berlin to wait for the return of the victorious team.

Due to a technical delay the plane carrying the German national team back from Brazil is expected to arrive at the German capital two hours later than expected, but the nation’s delirious fans don’t appear to care one bit.

Officials are expecting over 500,000 people to attend the event, with Joachim Low and his squad likely to receive a heroes welcome having clinched Germany’s first World Cup since 1990.

Mario Gotze scored the winning goal in the final against Argentina, his extra-time strike sparking delirium in Germany and securing the nation’s fourth title, after victories in 1954, 1974 and 1990.

After securing victory the German squad partied long into the night, with Rihanna, who was at the match, tweeting a series of photos of her with beaming members of the victorious squad.

Judging by the size of the crowds gathering in Berlin, the party looks set to continue for a few days yet.
