U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump reacts on stage as his wife Melania looks on at his 2016 New Hampshire presidential primary night rally in Manchester, New Hampshire February 9, 2016.
Melania Trump is reportedly not very interested about being the US’ first lady and approaches the role “hesitantly.” According to a new profile of the FLOTUS by Vanity Fair’s Evgenia Peretz, her role in the Donald Trump presidency was something she never wanted, an insider revealed.
Protesters at the Women’s March carried posters that said FREE MELANIA. The Twitter was also filled with #SaveMelania and #SadMelania hash tags.
Melania’s alleged disinterest in her husband’s political career was observed by parents at her son’s, Barron, school in New York even before the 2016 presidential elections. One parent recalled that she looked really thin, tired, and sad at Columbia Prep Parents Night.

Her lack of interest about having to play the role as US’ first lady is demonstrated by her lack of enthusiasm to promote a pet project or agenda, critics argued. Vanity Fair reports that her friends think she is not devoted to any charity unlike most wives of Manhattan’s wealthy elite.
The magazine also noted that last year, Melania delivered her first solo speech since the debacle at the Republican convention, in which she announced that she intended to fight cyber bullying but has not really done something about it yet. “The only action Melania Trump has taken in regard to cyberbullying is in regard to herself,” political strategist Cheri Jacobus told Peretz.
Before Melania officially moves to the White House, Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, gets her own office in the West Wing.
The latter socialised with some world leaders and business leaders. There were allegations that Ivanka might serve as first lady in her place, but the first daughter was quick to deny the speculations, insisting that there were several other roles that a woman could play in the White House besides being the FLOTUS.

Furthermore, two unnamed sources reportedly noticed “frostiness” between Melania and Ivanka. A White House spokesman has denied the claims, saying the ladies always had a close bond.
This month, the first lady accompanied her husband as they welcomed Chinese president Xi Jinping and his wife. She also visited an all-girls charter school in Washington, D.C. with Queen Rania of Jordan. The FLOTUS also accompanied Trump in his first military hospital visit where he awarded an Army veteran with a Purple Heart.
