A railway worker has told how he fell victim to racist abuse seven times in seven months including being branded a p**i and a suicide bomber.
The man, named only as Sukhi, gave a heart wrenching account of the verbal attacks which he says have left him in tears and suffering harrowing flashbacks.
The station assistant at Merseyside, in Liverpool, described how on Father’s Day he was forced to tell a man his dad was too drunk to travel.
He went to describe how the banned passenger hurled racial slurs including stupid p**i and suicide bomber.
In a heartbreaking video, released by British Transport Police, Sukhi admits he sometimes feels like rubbing the colour off his skin and says: If I was white this wouldn’t be happening to me.
BTP said despite millions of passengers using the UK’s transport network every year, just 16 crimes were recorded per million journeys made last year.
Officers have urged those targeted in hate crime incidents on transport to speak out in a campaign to mark National Hate Crime Awareness week which runs until October 21.
Detective Chief Superintendent Paul Furnell, Head of Public Protection, said: As part of our We Stand Together campaign we are actively encouraging people to come forward to report hate crime to us.
We want people to know there is never any excuse for these types of crime. Being victimised because of who you are or who people think you are is fundamentally wrong.
If you are a victim of hate crime, or if you witness an incident that makes you feel uncomfortable, please do not suffer in silence report it to us and we will do everything we can to help.
