Death warrants issued for Saka Chowdhury and Mujahid
The International Crimes Tribunal on Thursday issued death warrants against convicted war criminals Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid and Salauddin Quader Chowdhury a day after publication of SC full verdict.
The Supreme Court’s Appellate Division yesterday released full copies of verdicts upholding the death penalty for two war criminals — Jamaat leader Ali Ahsan Muhammad Mojaheed and BNP leader Sa-lauddin Quader Chowdhury — in connection with wartime offences.
On June 16, a four-member bench, comprising Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Justice Nazmun Ara Sultana, Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain and Justice Hassan Foyez Siddique, in a verdict upheld the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) verdict that had awarded the death penalty to Mojaheed.
In an another verdict, the SC’s same bench on July 29 upheld the ICT verdict that had awarded the death penalty to SQ Chowdhury for crimes against humanity committed during the 1971 Liberation War.
