Hasina wants to take Salahuddin to Singapore
BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed’s wife wants to shift him to Singapore from a Shillong hospital in Indian state Meghalaya where he has been undergoing treatment since May 10.
“As he is ill, I want to take him to Singapore for better treatment,” Hasina Ahmed, who is now in India, told local journalists at the Shillong Civil Hospital where she went to meet her husband this morning.
Journalists present at the hospital told this to The Daily Star over phone.
Meanwhile, Salauddin’s wife has appointed senior advocate of High Court of Meghalaya SP Mahanta as lawyer to defend Salahuddin in the case filed against him for trespassing into India.
Yesterday, Hasina reached Shillong and met her husband at the hospital after nearly two months of his disappearance from a residence at the capital’s Uttara on March 10.
Meghalaya police arrested Salahuddin on May 11 as he was “hanging around aimlessly” in Golf Links area.
Since he had no valid papers, identity proof or travel permit with him, Shillong police arrested and booked him under the Foreigners Act.
The BNP and Salahuddin’s family members had been claiming that law enforcers picked him up, an allegation denied by the law enforcers and the government.
